I just got a Passport backup drive (USB), but can’t write or copy any files to it. I checked Windows permissions/etc, and still no go. How can I fix this? I know about Windows permissions, so I’m looking for a Passport-specific solution (I believe the problem is with the Passport [or the software it installs], not a general file perm problem).

(Christopher): You may have to format the drive before you can use it. You can right click on the drive in Windows Explorer and then click on “Format.”

(You): thanks. Actually, I can see the software that came with it on the drive (and even install it, but I don’t want to use their software), so I think the drive is formatted properly.

(Daniel): Hi, Barry. Perhaps a dumb question, but what if you formatted the drive? Is there any particular feature of the Passport you want to maintain

(You): Black, thanks. I considered it, but I can see the software that came pre-installed on the drive, so I’m pretty sure that’s not the issue.
