Can I use Drupal to view an EXISTING MySQL database, or must all dbs be in “Drupal format”?

(You): Can I use Drupal to view an EXISTING MySQL database, or must all dbs be in “Drupal format”?

(Juan): Hi Barry, you need to connect you’re drupal site with an external database? It’s possible, here’s an example from Drupal forums http://drupal.org/node/335697#comment-1114671

(You): thanks. I actually meant merge that database so Drupal can use it like it uses any other db.

(Juan): in that case, you should import the content of the external database into drupal with a script. It’s easier than modifiyng drupal to read from both data sources

(You): ok, that makes sense. So Drupal can import existing dbs, yes?

(Gilberto): To browse any database you could use phpmyadmin, it??s a very nice utility to do exactly that.
